Sylvia Weber
Sylvia Weber is a consult, educator, therapist and a clinical specialist in psychiatric and gerentological nursing. She's president of Sylvia Weber Associates, Inc., an interdisciplinary mental health practice and works in the psychiatric gerontology liaison program at The Miriam Hospital. Sylvia has worked with many agencies and businesses on empowerment, team building, group dynamics, stress management, interpersonal relationships, organizational behavior, how to make work - work, holistic health, as well as other subjects. Sylvia received a diploma in nursing from Kings County Hospital Center, School of Nursing, a BSN from New York University, and a MSN from the University of California, in Los Angeles. In 1983, she retired as a Lieutenant Colonel from the armed forces reserve program, having held the positions of staff nurse, training officer, flight nurse, assistant chief nurse and chief nurse. In 1974, Sylvia received the Eastern Air Force Reserve award for meritorious service. Sylvia is active in civic and professional organizations. Sylvia was a member of the American Nurses Association's Congress on Nursing Practice and Economics, the Rhode Island State Nurses Association's Cabinet on Nursing Practice, and the Nurse Healers-Professional Associates International's Board of Trustees. She is currently a member of the Hope Alzheimer's Day Care Center's Board of Directors and is president of the Rhode Island State Nurses Association. Sylvia was a co-founder of the Rhode Island Samaritans program - a suicide prevention center. She has held several elected positions in nursing association on both the State and National levels. Sylvia was a member of ANNCC Commission on Certification, holding the position of chair in 1994. Sylvia received the Outstanding Young Woman of Rhode Island award and was the first recipient of Sigma Theta Tau, Delta Upsilon Chapters Louisa White Award for outstanding and innovative leadership in nursing. Sylvia's listed in Who's Who in Nursing. In June 2000 she received the American Nurses Credentialing Centers' advanced practice nurse award. Sylvia is known as one of the pioneers for the introduction and integration of holistic health/complementary healing modalities in the Rhode Island and surrounding area, affectionately referred to as the grandmother of holistic health in Rhode Island. |
